Respect for the Aged Day

Respect for the Aged Day is a day to celebrate long life and repect elderly people. Originally the day was September 15th, but in 2003, it was decided to be changed to the third monday of September. It was started in 1947 in Japan, which is the only country that celebrates Respect for the Aged Day. The reason that the happy monday system was introduced in 2003 is it makes the weekend longer.
On this holiday many people visit their grandparents, and some give gifts to them.

Trip to Washington D.C

I went Washington D.C November 2th-4th. There was an environmental meeting it was called Power shift 2007. A lot of students attended from all over the America. I liked discussions about global warming. And I was surprised at almost all university has association about the global warming. I thought Japanese university should have association about that.

After finish meeting, I went White house,Lincoln memorial, and Monument. It was so beautiful. I saw Lincoln's speech but I couldn't understand...ha ha ha... And regrettably I couldn't see president... Anyway, I felt "I arrive in America at last!!" I think Carbondale is America but Washington is more America.

Newsworthy-in my life

It was tragedy of December 24 for 2004. It was the worst day in my life. In Japan, Christmas Eve is a one of most important day for steadies. I had a boyfriend and of course I had a plan to hang out with him that day. However, when I came back my home and prepared for the date, I had a strong stomach ache. I couldn’t move and I couldn’t speak cause of pain. Fortunately my cell phone was near by me, so I called my mother and groan with pain. Then she noticed something happened to me and came my room. And she called hospital. I have never stepped on the ambulance, but that day, I stepped on the ambulance for the first time. I was excited while bearing a pain. After arrived the hospital, I was examined and doctor said I had appendicitis. That why I need hospitalization for a week. I couldn’t believe that because I had a lot of hang out plans and after Christmas, we had New Years Day. In addition to I need hospitalization, I left my cell phone in my house. Of course I couldn’t call to my boyfriend and I broke up with him.
